VALUE
Early Childhood Education is an integral part of Catholic Education and as such provides foundational support to the spiritual and educational development of the Christian person. It provides a nurturing experientially oriented environment which fosters peacemaking and an awareness of God. Through this awareness, St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic School’s Pre-K Program promotes a love of God, self, and others and a growth through age appropriate curricula, materials and methodology.

The value of St. Elizabeth School’s Early Childhood education program is reflected in the integration of Catholic faith and Christian virtues with developmental learning and is consistent with the educational ministry of the church which is exemplified through the environment provided. Our PreK program clearly models its value through age-appropriate curricula that is based on reliable research. Through the use of appropriate materials and methodology, our program consistently reflects its value in the growth of faith, love, and wisdom. We value and recognize each child’s uniqueness in relation to needs and ways of learning.

CATHOLICITY
At the heart of everything we do is our Catholic faith. It shapes how we teach and permeates everything we do within and beyond the classroom. Learning what it means to be a Christian in general, and a Catholic in particular distinguishes our students from their counterparts – it goes far and beyond academics. The faith we help build as parents and educators will serve our children not only in this life, but the next, and it is by far the most important thing we do. Understanding God in Christ helps children better understand themselves and navigate the world in which they live. Through daily prayer, religious instruction, and attending Mass, our students will come to know Jesus Christ and His ever-faithful love for us. There is no greater gift a child can receive, that an excellent education that includes faith formation.

STRUCTURE
The structure of this program reflects age-appropriate, developmentally sound criteria. Many factors contribute to the design of an Early Childhood program which meets the needs of the children and families in our community, yet, developmental appropriateness remains constant. Our teachers help satisfy children’s passionate interests by getting to know their strengths and inclinations, and providing age-appropriate activities to help them build their skills and knowledge. Each child will be allowed to progress developmentally at a pace determined by their individual needs. The total number of children included in an activity is limited to enable individualized age-appropriate learning. Our teachers’ number one priority for Pre-K is to guarantee our students have the skills necessary to ensure academic success in kindergarten and beyond. A solid foundation in literacy, mathematics and other basic skills is crucial to future success in school. Instruction is balanced with active play, complex manipulative blocks, puzzles, counting materials, story and play props centers, dramatic play, class participation and exploration.
